A good reason not to stay in Isafjordur Iceland
One does not have to have a degree in history to know the dangers of having one individual or company at both sides at the table. People generally cannot both work for the benefit of the people while stuffing their own pockets with money from outside activities.
Yet, this is what is happening in the tiny town of Isafjordur in the Westfjords of Iceland. The town mayor is neck deep in all kinds of business and mostly tourism business as is reported in a local paper.
This good mayor goes all in so to speak since he owns and controls four hotels and guesthouses and runs them all as a sideshow it seems after doing the people´s work during the day.
It is greedy enough to practically own the hotel business in one particular town but altogether worse to also have a say in what everyone else wants to do within town borders. We are pretty sure this mayor will not take kindly to newcomers building hotels on his territory.
If ever there was a good reason to skip staying in Isafjordur this is it. If only to avoid stuffing this guy´s pockets. Other fine hotels in nearby villages to choose from.
