„According to this brochure whales can often be seen from the coast of Snaefellsnes and I find this hard to believe. Can you possibly shed some light on the matter?“

This is a letter team Total Iceland got recently asking if it really were true that one can actually see playful whales and dolphins from the shores of Iceland.[blockquote type=”blockquote_line” align=”right”]how long are you prepared to wait on some chilly shore for a sighting[/blockquote]

Of course, everything is possible. It is not unheard of to see a pod of whales or dolphins from the shores of this country. But is is very rare and even if you get lucky you will hardly see much at all. For visitors with limited time to see wonderful Iceland this is a horrible piece of advice. And where exactly should you wait? Snaefellsnes peninsula is but 90 kilometers long and access to shore not easy in all cases.

Surely you could get lucky but how long are you prepared to wait on some chilly shore for a sighting? An hour? Four hours? Forget it. Either sign up for a whale watching tour or spend your precious time visiting the thousands of beautiful spots in Iceland.
