„ Iceland is exactly like I imagine the planet Mars after terraforming,“ said the rather shivering Egyptian echoing the sentiments of the whole group.
This group was walking in what is arguably the most stunning scenery in the whole of Iceland. At least, a scenery so remarkable it will easily wash away any thoughts of the Blue lagoon being the absolutely most adorable thing in Iceland.
The area in question was the highlands in the Northeast of the country. The same piece of land makers of Hollywood movies have taken a shine to recently. These barren and sandy landscapes have featured in a number of blockbuster movies lately: Oblivion, Thor the Dark World, Game of Thrones and Promotheus.
This is still a place to take your breath away although more and more tourist see a reason to wander around. Reason being that these vast expenses of black sands and weird-looking hills, cliffs, mountains and lava rocks plus the fact that here no one can hear you scream make it truly, truly special in a world inundated by noise from all directions.
Make the effort folks! Not many of these areas left on the planet.
