It is by no means a scientific survey but team Total Iceland was unable to find another night in a dorm bed with 16 other strangers in a hostel for well over THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
307 US dollars to be exact is the price demanded for a simple dorm bed in the Kex hostel in Reykjavik, Iceland from the 31st of December into the New Year. Even in pricey New York City we found no hostel charging more than 150$ for the same night in question.[blockquote type=”blockquote_line” align=”right”]Would you pay 400$ for a bed in a dormitory?[/blockquote]
307 US dollars is one hell of a hefty price to lay one´s head surrounded by the smell, noise and snores of fifteen other people with only shared access to a bathroom. Regardless of the otherwise nice ambiance of the place which is approximately ten minutes walk from the center of downtown Reykjavik. It is nice indeed but there is no luxury to speak of.
It gets even better. There is actually another option on the table according to the HotelsCombined website as seen above. Also a dormitory bed and shared bathroom but with fewer people sharing the space. For that luxury you´ll have to fork out almost 380 US dollars a night.
Still believe we are making things up by telling you this place is a lot more expensive than used to be the case? Because it is.
