I t takes a special kind of a woman to take up collection of stones and rocks at an early age. Even more special to continue the practice until her dying day. A private collection that has now turned into a popular museum.
The woman in question was Petra and she gathered quite the attention in her lifetime for her splendid collection of rocks and stones from this island. Rocks she lined up beautifully in her large garden and on every space available inside her home too. She did not even limit her collecting to stones as she has quite a collection of pens as well.

Visiting Petra´s Stone museum is easy and straightforward. It is pretty much the only thing to do in the tiny village of Stodvarfjordur in the East of Iceland and you really cannot pass through without taking notice. A number of the stones in Petra´s collection totally rock so to speak as she had a knack of finding amazingly beautiful stones wherever she went.
The museum is now run by her extended family and is open daily year-round. Making a stop will only make your travel here better. Homepage.
