Couple of months ago two members of Team Total Iceland stayed incognito for two nights in one of the fanciest hotels in Reykjavik Iceland. We don´t do this often but when we do we certainly take stock. Now, we are getting some bad rap from the hotel in question which we consider one of our proudest moments since only the truth really hurts so much as to call for retaliation.
The hotel management of Hotel Holt, is calling us sad nameless hacks in a recent twitter post and asking people not to listen to anything we say.
The management team has probably not read many posts on our Totaliceland.com web about Iceland and travel in Iceland. Yes, we are tough nutters and don´t give fancy reviews for fun. But anyone spending more than a moment on our site will know we give due where due should be given.
We stick by our review. This hotel is past its prime and we know because we have stayed there before four years ago or so. This is not to say the hotel is horrible but for the price and star rating this is not worth it. The room was very small and things didn´t work, the staff was indifferent at best and perhaps because we deliberately dressed like country people. Nothing extra was offered the whole two nights we stayed there. Suggestions about nearby attraction we asked about was met with a shrug. But you probably get good service here if you dress in Armani suit and act like a bigshot.
On the plus side the hotel is well located in a quiet street only steps from the fun downtown and they do have a great art collection. But for art we think you should go to a museum. For a good hotel you go to a good hotel.
But thanks for the post. We take it as a compliment.
