Contrary to what many believe the night temperature in Iceland can fall to zero right away in the middle of August. PIC Matthew Benton
There is a time and a place for everything. Including camping and roughing it outside in Iceland. That time is now coming to a close.
While cozy stays in warm comfy beds in decent hotels are nothing to complain about usually, it is a long way from the wonders of camping in Iceland. While not 100% nice all the time it is most often a wondrous experience over high summer when you go to sleep under the Midnight sun and you wake up under the same sun. The air as fresh as you have ever tasted and the calming sounds of nature coming to you from all directions at once. Magical moment indeed.
But happy campers no more. Beginning roughly in the middle of August the night temperature in Iceland falls dramatically and smiles will be fading from the faces of folks still roughing it in tents across the country. Already, the night temp here has fallen to zero or thereabouts a few times and even below zero in the highland area.
Our advice is to pack that tent for the last time and haul your ass inside sooner than later. Frost-bitten mornings are seldom a good way to start the day.
