As team Total Iceland has often mentioned there is gold fever in greedy Icelanders and every Jim and Joe in the country it seems has already started a tourism business or planning to.
One horrible part of this development is that often the “professional” guides you believe are leading you onto glaciers and mountaintops are just regular staff with little or no special knowledge.[blockquote type=”blockquote_line” align=”right”]Guided by people barely even aware of puberty[/blockquote]
This situation is especially serious regarding glaciers trips as these trips are highly dangerous and taking a group of foreigners onto one without much, or any, training and first aid experience is unimaginably stupid. But with money on the line everything goes it seems.
We could list a few tour companies sending clueless foreigners onto glaciers and into ice caves guided by people barely even aware of puberty but that would bring on another batch of lawsuits and since the companies have money and Total Iceland don´t that would not be a good idea. We will gladly inform you better in private correspondence should you so wish but in any case make sure if you do any kind of activity with any danger factor your travel insurance will cover everything and anything. Also make sure the tour companies you deal with offer reliable guides and don´t take their own word for it.
Send questions to the Iceland Tourist Industry Association and get it verified if possible. Really, you do not want to take any chances when walking, climbing or exploring a glacier.
