We certainly cannot guess what kind of society you guys live in but it makes no sense whatsoever to have the guts to go visit a foreign country and be too afraid to ask the locals for advice when in doubt.
Perhaps in New York you get stabbed for asking about Times square. Perhaps Germans will be rude and arrogant regarding questions about Reeperbahn and perhaps in Cancun, Mexico you will just be taken hostage for opening your mouth.[blockquote type=”blockquote_line” align=”right”]Open your mouth and ASK[/blockquote]
But in Iceland you will get a friendly answer in 99 per cent of cases. We actually like our normal life to be interrupted for a second or two.
Repeatably we observe tourists going back and forth looking for something and consulting their iPads, guidebooks og tourist maps every second. All the while hundreds of locals are scurrying to and fro at the very same spot. Even worse, a tour group was actually left behind at a bus station in the middle of nowhere because not one individual in the group had the idea of just asking what the correct bus would be. Too afraid to ask and these guys had to wait another 40 minutes for the next one.
Why waste time in a foreign country? The guidebook will only help you sometimes and often those are out-of-date. Open your mouth and ASK.
