A little more special walking around Reykjavik next few days.

A little more special walking around Reykjavik next few days.

Done walking leisurely around Reykjavik city? Then might we recommend you repeat the exercise since early evening on the 6th of February parts of the city might look distinctly different.

Yup, the famous Winter lights festival of Reykjavik and surroundings is upon us again. Well, perhaps only famous for the reporters of CNN who described this as a major unmissable event and worth seeing for anyone. Absolutely true if you come from the town of Redneck Alabama and this Iceland trip is your first venture outside your state ever.

For the rest of the civilized tourists this is simply a fine extra show you´ll get and certainly worth one more leisurely walk around town.

This new two-year old festival revolves around doing something a little extra over couple of weeks in dark and cold February. Most museums in Reykjavik and surrounding towns will be open until evening, light shows and exhibitions take place at various locations and especially noteworthy are Reykjavik´s public gardens, many of whom will turn from dull and frosty to glowing and fantastic.

Team Total Iceland recommends visiting Einar Jonsson sculpure garden while all this is going on. Ten special light installations have been set up among Mr.Jonsson´s fine sculptures and make a nice museum extra nice. And you just might run into our famous mayor of Reykjavik.

The whole package here and remember to dress warmly. No fun visiting anything in wet clothes.
