As you should know after reading all the regular tourist sites about Iceland everything here is hunky dory and then some. Pollution nonexistent, prices low, people friendly and you cannot but have the time of your life and return here for all eternity.
As often is the case when whole countries are victims of propaganda people none of the above has any relation to reality in Iceland. This has led some guests here to complain but those voices do not travel very far. After all, Iceland is THE IN COUNTRY right now judging from articles after articles in any foreign paper or on travel webs. Most of whom get a free ride courtesy of local tourist authorities.
What no one mentions is the fact that the otherwise stunning and liberating tours to Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss or a number of other very popular tourist sites in the country all have a teeny weeny bit problem. None of those places offer adequate toilet facilities.
Arrive in Thingvellir in a crowded bus in the summertime and should you urgently need to use a toilet you could be very frustrated in seconds when you notice the lines. There are but a handful of toilets and waiting time will easily ruin the fantastic views and your fabulously great mood. At Geysir and Gullfoss the situation is better but still the vast numbers of people mean long waits for a toilet at specific times of the day.
Neither are all buses equipped with toilets and even those that do offer such amenities tend to be rather unappealing.
We would thus highly recommend you use a toilet before taking a tour anywhere and drinking as little as possible in the bus. You might get lucky but then again, you might not. And Iceland is far too great to let a basic need ruin the experience.
