Us being Icelanders we have no qualms about telling you flat out that the locals in Iceland are weird as hell. By that we do not even mean believing-in-elves-living-in-rocks weird.
We mean why big companies like Icelandair or the Blue lagoon are paying foreign agencies millions of limited local currency reserves for reports that sound 99 per cent like articles on Total Iceland.
Shall we ring a bell or two?
- QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
- TREAT PEOPLE NICE
- NO OVERPRICING
- BLAH BLAH
This is in a nutshell what the famed Boston Consulting Group, BCG, is recommending local authorities to do regarding tourism the next few years and echoes exactly the impression you get if you read an article of ours or two apart from the fourth recommendation.
Then again, since we´ve been criticizing both Icelandair and the Blue lagoon for overpricing and not treating people nice we were never serious contenders were we… 🙂
In Iceland we actually have an old saying for a thing like this. „Fara yfir lækinn eftir vatninu“ which comes from the bright minds of the Vikings and means to go over the river for the water. Which is stupid.
