How about a total solar eclipse?
Turns out according to recent data from NASA the very best place to witness the next complete solar eclipse is the western part of Iceland or the Eastern part of Greenland. The latter being rather well covered in snow we believe Iceland would be a better option. Better yet is the timing of this eclipse. It will happen on the 12th of August 2026 to be precise.
That is extra nice timing on behalf of the moon and the sun because in Iceland there is still a whiff of daylight well into the night and if the skies are really clear a total solar eclipse would be extra remarkable. And these are remarkable enough.
But wait. There´s more. The village of Olafsvik is situated right below the beautiful glacier Snaefellsjokull well known as the setting of Jules Verne´s Journey to the Center of Earth. Theoretically you could climb the glacier and watch the total solar eclipse from the top of the world so to speak.
Is that not something to brag about to your kids someday….
