Only a few years ago we prided ourselves of this; pristine nature away from the crowds. Not anymore. PIC deltron3032
Tourism officials in Iceland have now done their job so very well, or not depending on your view, that hotels, guesthouses, tours and most surely the greatest natural jewels of Iceland will be jam-packed this summer. By jam-packed we mean the hotels are already booked to the hilt. Tours of any kind will be larger than ever and probably more expensive since demand is much higher than supply. Which means you only get to enjoy the pleasure of places like Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, Landmannalaugar and such with crowds of loud people.
In our view that is not the way to enjoy nature at all. Want throngs of people head to the beaches of Spain or Florida or stores all over the world over sale period. But now small delicate Iceland is competing also.
Thus, to avoid crawling over people to catch a glimpse of the fantastic natural places in Iceland we recommend you arrive in the fall or better yet go visit the North, East or Westfjords of the country. Only there can you still get in touch with nature without the tourist masses found in the South.
