How much fun can you have in such deep-freeze conditions?

Untold millions have been spent by tourism agencies in Iceland on advertising trying to entice you to visit this windblown place in the middle of wintertime. You thinking about it? Then take a look at the this forecast for a day in December.

Shivering already are we?

If not now then you will without doubt shiver on your arrival on a day like this. And pray it is a calm day and not windy for these temperatures could easily double when you factor in the wind-chill.

This, among other things, is why team Total Iceland does NOT recommend visiting Iceland over winter. Apart from the Northern lights conditions here are not very conductive to pleasurable experiences for you. You are not going to enjoy Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir or any other fabulous spots in Iceland because you are too cold all the time.

Certainly, there are lots of folks with high interest in very cold places. Those will show up regardless. But for the rest of you just wanting to quickly take in the sights there is no worse way than do it in dark winter. Oftentimes you see very little. Gullfoss waterfall is less stunning when big chunks of it are frozen solid. Roads are icy and hazardous and make for a longer trip and roads here are bad enough in summertime. Lower prices in off-season? Forget it.

We could go on but we won¬īt. You get the picture ūüôā
