Witnessing the sun go down and then change its mind and go up again is poetry in motion if there ever was such a thing. PIC -dave morrow-
Dear visitor, the above cannot be overstated enough. June in Iceland is by far the very best time to visit and we´ll tell you why.
June 20th – 22th are the longest days of the year as you probably know. It is also when the sun never goes down in Iceland and whatever else you do or see on your travels in Iceland this is the thing you will remember best and most. Guaranteed.
Roughly put there is only a two week window to experience the sun never setting. A good bet would be from June 12th until July 1st. At other times before and after this date the sun will disappear even if only for a few minutes.
This time is also when many “Midnight sun” events take place in the country. From midnight sun dog sledding adventures to midnight sun golf tournaments, midnight yoga and naturally camping parties and a few festivals.[blockquote type=”blockquote_line” align=”right”]One of the more satisfying sights in this world is sitting quietly and be awed as the sun slides down only to change its mind the very last minute[/blockquote]
Even if you do nothing at all just sitting in your tent, hotel balcony or wherever else you lay your hat the moment of seeing the sun going down and then all of a sudden rise again cannot be described. It is much more than wonderful. Much more than stunning. Much more than words.
For this spectacular sight there is only June.
Don´t buy it? Well, we came armed with some evidence. All the pics below are taken more or less at midnight in this beautiful country. The icing on this cake is the wonderful Midnight sun time lapse video.
