For the umpteenth time in the last year or so we came across an ad from a foreign travel agency offering extremely exciting and splendid tours to Iceland. Trouble is, these are putting your life at risk.

One of those agencies is the American Brownell Travel. As seen in the image above they promise “lounging in icebergs” every Wednesday.

How wonderful one might think. Who does not want to chill on a glacier in the fantastic Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon for a few minutes?

Well, while not illegal, this kind of activity is more or less banned in Iceland. At the very least frowned upon. The reason being such adventure is risky as hell. Should you fall in the cold shock could well render you incapacitated. This is a glacial lagoon which naturally means this is much colder water than the cold Atlantic sea for instance.

Of course, the likelihood of falling in may not be too great and some deal quite well with sudden freezing cold. But is that a chance you want to take? From here is a pretty long way to Tipperary and to the nearest doctor or hospital too. Which is why a rescue team of 20 was around when Leo DiCaprio made some photo session for a magazine in a glacial lagoon. For ordinary folks there is no such team around.

Not the smartest thing if you ask us.
