The highlands of Iceland are truly stunning so why the hell are you guys ruining it? PIC Howard Ignatius
Tourists getting into trouble in Iceland is a daily occurrence. Seems a number of you guys either A) do not know how to read, or B) care nothing about seriously delicate nature of the country being visited.
Personally, we recommend reading Total Iceland but since we have not made much dent on the international level you might share this to everyone taking a trip to Iceland.
Tell them, and forcefully, that MOST HIGHLAND ROADS OF ICELAND ARE STILL CLOSED TO TRAFFIC IN JUNE.
Iceland is not Germany where you drive wherever you want on fancy roads with wind blowing in your hair. It is not USA where it is nearly impossible to make a mess anywhere.
Iceland is a way younger country than both of those. It is one of the youngest countries on the globe. It is also very North on the globe and winter is long and hard. Therefore you will leave a mark nearly everywhere you go. Even on foot you might leave a mark here.
Then use the power of your brain to imagine what damage a heavy vehicle will do in the pristine highland? Got the picture yet or do we have to draw the picture.
Stop it. The highland of Icelands is more or less, still off limits for vehicles. Any vehicle.
