Although flying to Iceland nowadays has gotten much better and cheaper for the most part with more airlines offering flights from both sides of the Atlantic, this added competition has strangely not meant better and faster customer service. On the contrary.
The airline of choice/necessity for the majority of folks visiting Iceland or simply having a stopover is Icelandair, the flag carrier of Iceland. The customer service they offered used to be pretty quick and good as befits a tiny airline. But no more.
The company is spending large amounts of money on marketing and advertising the world over but it seems the one thing nothing is done about is customer service. It has gotten so bad many folks needing help or assistance now have to wait for up to 30 days and sometimes a lot longer. This applies to folks having lost their luggage, found their luggage damaged or most other complaints travelers can have.
Thirty days wait for a simple response or basic help after for example losing the luggage qualifies as horrible service in our books and we are ashamed of such lousy service on part of a company flying in the name of Iceland. These are real people of flesh and blood needing help.
Do take this into consideration when booking a flight or pray you do not need any special assistance when your time comes. After all, losing one´s luggage easily puts a damper on any trip and tour and could in some cases ruin it completely.
