A t the best of times less than half of all visitors to Iceland ever take the time or make the effort to visit other parts of the country than the South and the Southwest. Which means those miss out on what is arguably one of Iceland´s most precious place.

Myvatn is found way Northwest in the country and takes a bit of an effort to reach. It´s either possible by flying from Reykjavik to Akureyri and from there rent a car or take a bus for roughly an hour. Unless driving the whole way sounds better but the straight drive from Reykjavik will take six to seven hours.

Whichever way you go you will be amply rewarded at the end and should absolutely take a breather around here somewhere for a couple of days or so. You will instantly be taken aback, in a positive way, by the many splendorous things. Those include:
