Soon one will pay to see Geysir area in Iceland. PIC coleccionistadeinstantes

It was bound to happen eventually. Soon anyone wishing to view up close the Geysir area in Haukadalur in Iceland will have to fork over some dough for the first time.

Now, one would think this a good idea. This place as many others in Iceland are being overrun by tourists which naturally has an impact and often negative ones. Landowners are contemplating charging each tourist around 9$ / 6€ for entrance which does not sound so bad.

What is bad however, is the fact that all the area needs are some nice walking paths and some security fences around the geysers and voilà! Mother nature does the rest as she has done for millions of years. Problem is, a decent walking path is already in place and so, partly, are fences.

Another problem, the landowners will make a handsome profit of this natural pearl. They think it fine to reserve some dividends for themselves while at it. Which is simply wrong when speaking about a grand and historic site. In other words, the privatization of the natural pearls of Iceland has started. And what does history tell us about such schemes….
