Fault us if you want but team Total Iceland is a firm believer of fair pay for fair service. Fair service or better is usually what you get from tour guides in Iceland working for companies making a killing. Yet, average monthly salary of tour guides is 1.670€ / 2.270$.

That might sound fine, dandy and marvelous in India for example but not so compared to Ireland where the minimum monthly wage is 1.470€ / 2.000$. And we don´t even try to compare with our fellow Nordic countries.[blockquote type=”blockquote_line” align=”right”]Spare a thought for poorly paid guides in Iceland[/blockquote]

This is absolutely horrible in an industry making a constant killing. Tourism has very quickly risen to be more important for the Iceland economy than fishing. But as is often the case few benefit and laugh not just to the bank but in the bank too.

Think about it next time you book with a local agency. Only together can be break the tornado sending huge chunks of money to the top while the poor and the middle class suffers more and more.
